Position: Safety Management System Coordinator (SMS Coordinator)

Summary of Functions:
The SMS Coordinator is chiefly responsible for ensuring that all technical activities employed at Viking are in compliance with the relevant governing documentation (i.e. Quality Maintenance Policy Manual, Design Approved Procedures Manual.)
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Actively liaise with site and area mangers/supervisors to provide the necessary support to ensure the integrity of the Company’s SMS;
- Assist site managers with through the implementation cycle of SMS-related policies and procedures;
- Assist site managers with the measuring the effectiveness or the SMS aspects that pertain to their areas of authority;
- Assist with the integration of SMS requirements with Environmental, Health & Safety requirements where appropriate;
- Assist the QA / SMS Development Manager with regular SMS & EHS system audits to ensure the integrity of systems is maintained.
Organizational Relationships:
The SMS Coordinator will maintain a close relationship with the QA/SMS Development Manager as well as with all site/area managers and supervisors within the organization to ensure that SMS policies and procedures are properly supported, controlled and improved through constant measuring of their effectiveness.
Experience and/or Educational Requirements:
- A diploma or degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent;
- Minimum of 10 years related experience in an Aircraft Maintenance Organization (AMO), aeronautical component (or preferably aircraft) manufacturing environment, and/or an aerospace Design Approved Organization (DAO);
- Fully conversant with Canadian Aviation Regulations, especially CAR 505, 561, 563, & 573;
- Previous experience within an ISO-9001, or preferably, AS9100-approved organization;
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills;
- Good decision making skills with the ability to supervise and provide direction to personnel under his/her authority;
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to resolve conflicts;
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision or direction.
